EXAMPLE ARRANGEMENT

From manuscript to score and recording

Below you will find an example of how a handwritten score with style suggestions is transformed into a complete arrangement, including recording and transcribed sheet music. Both for arranging the instruments, recording and editing the tracks, and for writing out the scores, only free, open-source software is used. This example was published with the permission of the composer Henry Muldrow, who, among other things, has had many songs arranged by me for Stichting Culturele Droomwevers (for which I am grateful). Henry is a professional musician and can deliver his compositions in beautiful sheet music and chord symbols. You don't have to (but you are welcome to). We will always find a solution together; we will stay in contact throughout the project to discuss details that arise during the work. Any adjustments to the music, such as the use of different chords or rhythmic corrections, will always be made in consultation with each other, to achieve the best possible result together.

Above the original manuscript of the composer Henry Muldrow (in this case, therefore, "the client's commission"), and below it from the top left clockwise: the Lilypond script in Vim and the compilation with Lilypond, the score with three parts (vocal melody one staff, piano two staves (= one "system"), and the chord sequence) in pdf format, below that Audacity, in which the digital recording and editing takes place, and finally the sequencing program Rosegarden in which the tracks are created and played as a MIDI file.
This is what my production sounds like:
